Summer weddings are such a delight! Especially when the bride and groom are close to your heart! This summer, I was honored to design the flowers for the wedding of my niece, Lauren, and her new husband, Ryan. The couple wanted a fun, easygoing vibe for their seaside wedding in Cape May, New Jersey. All the details came together to create a wonderful evening to remember.
Planning a summer wedding of your own? Here are my top tips:
- Pick a simple color palette, and use it consistently. Lauren and Ryan chose a relaxed scheme of blue, sage, and cream, that fit their yacht club setting without looking overly nautical. They carried their colors consistently through the bridal party fashion, the decor, and yes, even the cake!
- Take advantage of borrowed views. When your surroundings are naturally beautiful, you don't need to go overboard on the decor. Just a few key accents, like the lanterns and free-standing flower arrangements here, create a feeling of sacred space within an open seaside setting.
- Relax into it. When something unexpected happens - like a passing boat blowing its horn - just give a laugh. You'll have a good story to tell about it later!
